ATHEROCHEM
AtheroChem Inc. is developing novel compounds for the treatment of coronary heart disease caused by atherosclerosis, an accumulation of fatty deposits within the artery walls.
AtheroChem’s first compounds have been formulated to target activated macrophages/foam cells, key cells in atherogenesis. They have been shown in a “gold-standard” animal model to both prevent the formation of arterial plaques and to cause the regression of existing plaques.
Our lead drug candidates act on unexploited upstream targets in the reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) pathway. The RCT pathway is responsible for moving cholesterol from an atherosclerotic plaque to the liver, for excretion. Our compounds modulate the first step within the RCT pathway.
AtheroChem is
a development stage company. It was founded in January 2004 by Queen’s
University researchers and PARTEQ Innovations, the technology transfer
arm of Queen’s. It is dedicated to bringing its technologies from
the research laboratory to clinic. !
