AtheroChem’s first compounds have been formulated to target activated macrophages/foam cells, key cells in atherogenesis. They have been shown in a “gold-standard” animal model to both prevent the formation of arterial plaques and to cause the regression of existing plaques.
The following tables present results of acute ‘prevention’ and ‘regression’ studies in ApoE knockout mice.
Prevention Study [dosed every 4th day, total 4 doses]
- Mice were fed a high fat diet;
- Controls were fed a normal diet
- Treatments wereACA010 alone, ACC010 alone, ACA010+ ACC010
- Results are presented relative to lesion area in high fat diet group
